The 2006 Bideford Folk Festival ended with a great set by the Oggle Band which had us up and dancing for all we were worth; demonstrating that playing for ceilidhs is only one side of the bands many talents. This year they are playing a concert set and a ceilidh at the festival! Garry also a runs our very popular Family Ceilidh Workshop - so for some family fun look out for that in the programme.
Fusing traditional music with elements of jazz and world influences, the ‘Oggle Band’ has established a reputation as one of the liveliest, most entertaining ceilidh dance bands in the South West. The five piece, multi-instrumental line up creates a rich, lively and varied sound that won’t let you keep still!
The Oggle Band’s concert repertoire fuses traditional music with elements of rock, jazz and world influences. The band create a rich and varied sound, ranging from soft melodic numbers to lively jigs, reels and other high energy tunes and songs.
The band:
Garry: melodeon, percussion (and caller for the dances) Edward: guitar, whistle, saxophone, clarinet
Rhys: melodeon, guitar Jo: fiddle Keith: drums
The band specialises in playing for Ceilidhs and Barn Dances for public and private events. They have their own caller to lead everyone through the dances. In addition they have a repertoire of music and songs, which they perform whilst dancers get their breath back between dances!
