The consumers thirst for fact, fiction and knowledge, require continual innovation to keep us ahead of the large retail outlets and in such a competitive market place. A small independent book shop needs to constantly strive to meet its customer's needs. We do this by offering a personal service second to none, better than any of our rivals, yet we remain focussed on value and variety whilst never losing our welcoming ‘old style' environment which so many book enthusiasts love, returning year after year. We are continually evolving to meet the needs of our customers, both old and new. In its ninth year Walter Henry’s has now become an institution in our own right; a part of Bideford's history and its future.

Poetry Workshop with Frances Thompson

Frances Thompson this years judge of the Festival Poetry Competition will also be giving a Poetry Workshop at the Baptist Church on Thursday 17th at 2.30pm, the same day as the Poetry Event at the Burton Art Gallery. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet, talk to and learn from one of the UK's top poets. Frances has told us that the workshop will be suitable for the inexperienced to the experienced poet. An opportunity not to be missed. The cost of the workshops is £2 only thanks to the Festival policy of making many events free or easily affordable.

Festival Poet 2006

The result of the 2006 Festival Poetry Competition will be announced and the winning poet presented with the ‘Tappit Hen Tankard’ (to keep and clean for a year) plus a £50 Book Token Prize. We will ask the three short listed poets to read their poem entries.
