He started making and still does make instruments from traditional woods. Tony however has always been ready to experiment and innovate. This has led to the very popular range of Pied Piper Polymer flutes and whistles. Although Tony Dixon and his team produce whistles for sale in countries all over the world, he still has a very hands on approach. He produces in small batches and all the instruments are finished by hand. As he says himself ‘each instrument is much squinted along during its passage through the workshop'. A truly international cottage industry here in North Devon. The Irish ConcertIrish music has its own unique sound; there is something about it that gets right into your soul. We have two fantastic bands, Claddagh and M’Larkey in Concert tonight so we are bound to get some wonderful songs and tunes played. Claddagh are also led by the sponsor of tonight’s concert, the pipe playing, whistle making, Tony Dixon, thanks Tony! Tonight looks like being one of those special nights. Supporting the two headliners are Baz & Chloe from the Dambuskers fresh from their success at this years Brampton Folk Festival, with their very lyrical and energetic approach to playing Irish music. Sheelagh Allen from Dublin and now Bideford will be guesting on a couple of songs with Claddagh during their set. We look forward to hearing the authentic sound of a Dublin girl. |
