North Devon’s most famous folk group, Hearts of Oak, will no longer be together as a group at the end of 2006. After 25 years of performances that have entertained audiences in the UK and USA, John, Tony, Ian and Rupert are bringing the curtain down on Hearts of Oak, a name that will resonate here in Devon for years to come. In the 25 years they have raised over £200,000 for local charities and taken folk music and the working songs of sailors in the form of shanties to audiences that must number well into the millions. They always put on a good show with their musical and vocal talents and we are pleased to have them appearing at Bideford Folk Festival
They will be supported by a Cornishman, Tony Truscott a singer and song writer of the highest order. Tony is one of the Cornwall Songwriters who have made their mark on folk music with their award winning shows ‘The Cry of Tin’ and ‘Unsung Heroes -The Lost Gardeners of Heligan’ which featured as one of the high points of last years Bideford Folk Festival.
We look forward to a fine evening of music and song.
