When Jerry is in charge it is always a great night. Song and Music Sessions take place in the bar and the function room at the Joiners during the festival at lunchtimes and during the evening, check the sessions page because there are concerts or ‘Sings’ some nights. Bideford Folk Club Bideford Folk Club is based at The Joiners Arms, in Market Place, Bideford and takes place every Thursday at 8pm only missing a week if Christmas or the New Year happens on the same day. It has been running for well over ten years, we need to find someone who can remember when it started to know accurately. Although based on traditional folk music and song and the singaround format; every evening is different and every evening has its own gems. Bideford is a club that welcomes visitors, particularly during the summer months. The club has seen musicians and singers from around the world and heard music of all sorts. Visiting singers are welcomed and they can be sure that when the chorus comes around they won’t be singing on their own. Known as a club that encourages singers and musicians, we have seen beginners take their first faltering steps in folk music and then turn into performers able to perform on a national stage. We have about four guest nights a year, over the years we have seen some fantastic performers, Nancy and James, Dave and Anni, John Kirkpatrick, Pete Morton, Cloudstreet, Pete Coe, Christine Coe, Steve Knightley, its quite a list and apologies to all those fabulous artistes we have not mentioned. We also go away once a year and stay at a Youth Hostel somewhere in the West Country to sing and play and do workshops for days on end. Those long weekends foster a family feeling in the club that gives the club a special feel. Out of Bideford Folk Club has sprung the impetus to put on a folk festival. We look forward to seeing you at the festival and on any Thursday evening. You don’t have to sing; you can just sit and listen until you catch the bug, that is! The founding members in all their glory! Len, June, Jerry and Hilary
